Scratch My City at Soho Theatre

Left Luggage Theatre have been asked by theatre collective Forward Theatre Project to explore ‘reversing the process.’  Left Luggage have created visual concepts  based on Mick Jackson’s Ten Sorry Tales, to present to Forward Theatre’s writer-director teams. Four pairings are then given the challenge to respond to the design idea and create a scratch performance. This time, the design not the script comes first…

Forward Theatre Project are committed to creating a community amongst emerging theatre artists from all over the UK and ‘Scratch My City’ is the company’s venture into cross-region collaboration.

Scratch My City will be on 30th October, 7.45pm at Soho Theatre, London.

A Gateshead Fairytale at Enchanted Parks 10

Left Luggage Theatre have been working with the talented pupils of Caedmon Primary and Brighton Avenue Primary in Gateshead to create story jars to become part of our installation, A Gateshead Fairytale at Enchanted Parks from 8th to 12th Dec in Saltwell Park.

Thomas the Story Keeper visited the children and asked them to capture the magic moments from the Brothers Grimm tales he told. The children have created beautiful, miniature scenes in hundreds of glass jars that will be set amongst the trees and lit by fairy lights while the children’s voices tell their favourite stories in the wintry darkness.

Left Luggage would like to give special thanks to the children and staff at Brighton Avenue Primary School and Caedmon Primary School, Gateshead.

Tickets are selling fast for Enchanted Parks 10 – to book yours click here.

Special thanks to the artists involved in A Gateshead Fairytale school’s workshops: Bethan Maddocks, Verity Quinn and Tom Walton.

Enchanted Parks 2010: A Gateshead Fairytale

Enchanted Parks, part of NewcastleGateshead Winter Festival returns in December. Specially commissioned artworks celebrating a Gateshead Winter’s Tale will transform Saltwell Park into a wonderful setting for after-dark fairy tales for all the family. Left Luggage Theatre are proud to be among the commissioned artists to take part.

Left Luggage Theatre will capture childhood imagination, like fireflies, in hundreds of glass jars set sparkling amongst the magical woodland.  Look closely into each jar to see the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales alive in miniature and listen carefully to the delicate music in the trees and child’s voices telling their favourite tales.

From afar it will look like falling stars have been caught amongst the branches and when you venture near a feast of detail becomes clear when each jar tells a story.

Dancing in Gateshead

Left Luggage Theatre spent a jam packed three days working with three talented young dancers at the old Brighton Road Presbyterian Church, Gateshead before it lives again in a new guise as artist’s studio.

The company played with storytelling through space, object and the body and came away with some exciting new creative avenues to explore.

A big thank you to Peter Groom, Catherine Muckle and Isaac Quinn for their hard work and creative energy.

Many thanks to Mushroom Works for allowing us to use their beautiful building. For more information contact Brighton Road Studios
